Your Comprehensive Guide to Micropigmentation

Are you feeling self conscious about your sparse or thin eyebrows? Learn all about micropigmentation and how it can benefit you.

Micropigmentation, or permanent makeup, is an innovative cosmetic procedure that refers to the application of colour to the top layer of the skin. When performed by a trained professional, it is a safe and effective way to enhance the shape of your:

  • Eyebrows
  • Lips
  • Eyes
  • Hairline

How long does micropigmentation last? Micropigmentation is similar to a tattoo and can provide individuals with long lasting and effective results. Typically, it requires reapplication within 3 years for the best results.

How Is Micropigmentation Performed?

Micropigmentation is performed by inserting a small, thin needle and hypoallergenic mineral pigment into the second layer of the skin to lightly contour and enhance the appearance of your eyes, eyebrows, lips, and more.

How long does the treatment last? The procedure itself typically takes half an hour to complete. It is performed in an office setting, which means that you can return home the same day.

Is the procedure painful? Micropigmentation is minimally invasive, which means that most patients do not experience much discomfort. However, depending on the area being treated, a topical anesthetic may be used to keep you comfortable.

How long do the results of micropigmentation last? Typically, the results will last 3-4 years. After this time, you may experience some slight fading and you can return to your medical spa for a quick touch up.

What to Expect After a Micropigmentation Treatment

Before opting for a micropigmentation treatment, it’s important to understand what you should expect following the procedure. Here are some things you should be aware of:

  • You will typically experience some swelling in the treatment area. However, you can apply ice to the area to reduce any swelling or pain.
  • Patients who receive treatment in the eye area may also have some tearing afterwards. In such cases, you may need someone to drive you to and from the appointment.
  • Following the procedure, you may be provided with an antiseptic to clean the area and lower your risk of any infection.
  • You may be advised to avoid sunlight and certain products, such as peroxide, as this can have a negative effect on your results.
  • Your colouring will appear more intense after the procedure, but it will gradually fade within a few weeks.

Note: If you develop a fever or rash, or you experience excessive swelling and burning in the area after your procedure, you must contact your doctor or aesthetician immediately.

Who is a Good Candidate For Micropigmentation?

Micropigmentation is an excellent choice for both men and women who are looking to improve the appearance of their eyebrows, hairline, lips, and more. It is also beneficial for people who:

  • Have allergies to traditional makeup.
  • Have faint or partial eyebrows
  • Suffer from difficulty applying makeup due to physical limitations, such as arthritis or poor eyesight.
  • Have undergone chemotherapy or breast reconstruction surgery
