How To Determine Which Acne Treatment Is Right For You

While acne is a common skin condition, every case is different. At our Edmonton Skin Clinic, we offer customized acne treatments, from chemical peels to blue light laser, to give you the clear and beautiful complexion you desire.

While you may feel extremely self-conscious about your acne, did you know that it's one of the most common skin conditions in Canada? For most patients, it will develop during the teenage years, and for some, not until adulthood. Some of the symptoms of acne include:

  • Pimples, whiteheads or blackheads
  • Papules (raised lesions)
  • Pustules (raised lesions with pus)
  • Cysts (nodules filled with pus)

Customized Treatment Is Important

Despite it being a common skin condition, no two cases of acne are the same. That’s why, at our Edmonton Clinic, we offer fully personalized Treatment Plans based on many factors including your skin type, lifestyle, acne severity, and treatment history.

How To Know Which Acne Treatment Is Right For You

At Glo Skin & Medspa, our skincare professionals work with you to create the most effective acne treatment for your specific case. Whether you suffer from the occasional breakout, or you have a more serious case of acne, our team can get you on the path to clear and beautiful skin.

1. Mild Acne Cases

If you suffer from a mild case of acne, then often good skincare and the use of topical medications such as azelaic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or salicylic acid will be sufficient to keep your condition under control.

These products work by:

  • Removing excess oil and dead skin cells to unclog your pores
  • Killing bacteria in the clogged pores
  • Reducing any inflammation and skin redness

2. Mild Acne Scars

If you have some mild scarring from your acne, then your Skin Specialist may suggest opting for a chemical peel or other procedure. Not only will these treatments eliminate the scars, but they also stimulate the production of collagen, which can greatly improve the appearance of your skin.

3. Moderate/Severe Acne Cases

Treatment for moderate to severe cases of acne also include the use of the topical agents listed above. In addition, your Acne Specialist may suggest a series of treatments or oral medications including:

  • Acne Facials
  • Blue Light Laser
  • Chemical Peels
  • Antibiotics
  • Oral Contraceptives
  • Oral Isotrentotin

4. Moderate/Severe Acne Scars

Laser Resurfacing or Microneedling are often best for eliminating moderate to severe acne scarring. However, it’s always best to consult with our Skincare Specialists about which is the safest and best choice for your specific case.
