The Silent Trigger. Can Reducing Dairy Intake Help Eliminate Acne?

One of the most sought-after treatment results is healthy, clear skin. At Glo, all of our skin care treatments are customized to your individual skin type, background, and age. While we offer a number of treatments to clear breakouts, knowing the cause of your acne is the best type of prevention.

Here at Glo, our Skin Care Experts know that an excellent skincare regimen should be complemented by trying to maintain healthy skin from the inside out. By drinking lots of water and following a healthy diet, many individuals can maximize the results of their skincare treatments.

If you are using the right cosmetic products for your skin type, drinking a sufficient amount of water, limiting highly processed foods, and are still suffering from breakouts, it may be helpful to look into whether or not dietary issues could be behind your breakouts.

Dairy and Acne

Did you know that acne has repeatedly been linked to dairy and other common food intolerances? The American Academy of Dermatology notes several studies that have established a correlation between dairy intake and acne breakouts. These studies have included teens, adults, women, and men.

In a 2013 review published by the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, researchers examined the evidence between acne and diet and found that certain products, particularly cow's milk, produce and stimulate hormones linked to acne. The association does not seem to be related to the fat content of milk, as low-fat milk had an even greater association with acne compared with high-fat milk. Some Dermatologists speculate the correlation may be due to the growth hormones found in milk today. It is suggested that these hormones can cause an increase in clogged pores in certain areas of the face.

Additionally, there are many examples of individuals in the beauty industry who discuss how their acne was eliminated when they reduced their dairy intake.

Are You Considering Cutting Dairy For Clearer Skin?

It may be a good idea to try reducing or eliminating your dairy intake to see if it leads to a decrease in acne breakouts. In order to offer our clients a comprehensive treatment plan to combat pesky acne, we now offer Food Allergy Testing on 90 foods. To find out if Allergy Testing is right for you, please book a Complimentary Consultation with one of our Nurses.

Remember to stay healthy!

  • It's always a good idea to discuss any significant dietary changes with your doctor or nutritionist. These professionals will be able to point you in the right direction and suggest other nutritional strategies to eliminate acne.
  • For individuals who wish to reduce dairy instead of going “cold turkey”, it can be beneficial to make sure the dairy you do consume is of high quality, with fewer additives and extra ingredients.
  • If you feel that your pores are clogged, book a Deep Cleansing Facial or Chemcial Peel with one of our Skin Care Experts to help your skin clear up more quickly.

I came in to enquire about some skin imperfections and botox etc. The staff was especially sensitive to what I needed and complimented what I already had. I hope the staff excel in the areas of dematology/age tolerations in their career. They are a must with this area of beauty. Thanks for all of the valuable information.
