Pre and Post Laser Hair Removal Care: What You Need to Know

Laser hair removal treatment is an innovative method of removing unwanted hair and can provide patients with many benefits, including safe results and smooth skin. However, to ensure the best outcome, here are some pre and post laser hair removal care tips you should follow:

Pre Treatment Care

  • Before you go for your appointment, you must make sure that the area to be treated is clean-shaven. If not, your treatment may have to be rescheduled.
  • Avoid UV exposure for at least one week prior to your treatment.
  • To avoid skin damage, you must wait at least 2 weeks for laser hair removal treatment if you are sunburned or tanned.
  • Avoid tanning products at least 2 weeks before your treatment. You may want to exfoliate the area to remove any residual color before your treatment.
  • Clean skin is required for the treatment. If you are treating any part of your face or neck, make sure to cleanse your skin before going to the clinic.
  • Avoid any other laser procedures and chemical peels in the treatment area at least two weeks before your hair removal treatment.
  • If you have any moles, spots, or abnormal lesions in the treatment area, these must be cleared by a medical practitioner before treatment.
  • You must stop waxing, tweezing, or epilation at least one month before your laser hair removal treatment.
  • If you are prone to cold sores, you should talk to your skin specialist about taking an antiviral medication before your treatment. If you have a cold sore in the treatment area, the procedure is not recommended.
  • If you have used Accutane or similar products within the last six months, you won’t be able to have laser hair removal treatments.
  • Wait at least two weeks after cosmetic procedures such as Botox or tissue fillers before receiving laser hair removal treatment.
  • Always provide your technician with accurate and up to date medical history.
  • Do not receive laser hair removal treatments if you are pregnant.

Post Treatment Care

  • Avoid sun exposure for at least one week after your treatment.
  • If you do have any post-treatment discomfort, talk to your laser hair removal specialist about taking Tylenol.
  • To alleviate any redness, itching, or general discomfort, you can use cool towels, ice packs, or aloe vera.
  • Avoid any chemical peels or other laser treatments for at least 2 weeks after treatment, or until healing has occurred.
  • When you do go outside following your treatment, make sure to use sunblock with SPF 30 or higher.
  • If you do experience any side effects, such as hyperpigmentation, prolonged swelling or blistering, call your laser hair removal specialist immediately.
  • To achieve the best results, complete the full treatment schedule (at least 4 treatments) at the intervals (typically 6-8 weeks) recommended by your technician.
  • Exfoliate the treated area to minimize your risk of ingrown hairs.
  • Avoid hot showers, steam rooms, and saunas for at least 14 days after your treatment.

I came in to enquire about some skin imperfections and botox etc. The staff was especially sensitive to what I needed and complimented what I already had. I hope the staff excel in the areas of dematology/age tolerations in their career. They are a must with this area of beauty. Thanks for all of the valuable information.
